Airlander Hybrid Air Vehicles

The world's largest aircraft, a helium-filled, blimp-like airship, took to the skies for the first time on August 17th, successfully landing after its maiden voyage from Cardington Sheds in
Bedfordshire, England.

Airlander took the best of airplanes, helicopters and airships and combined them with the latest technology to create this brand new airship. The Airlander is considered a “hybrid” of an airplane and an airship. It gets 40% of our lift from the aerodynamic wing shape of our aircraft, and 60% from the helium fill. It is more efficient than other forms of air transport because of this. Airlander has flown before with a US Government program, but is now being developed for commercial purposes, such as cargo, aid, communications, remote flying, advertising, surveillance, and passenger transport.

Airlander claims to revolutionize air transport and travel by saying that the airship is one of the lowest carbon emissions aircraft in the world. It can also stay airborne for weeks at a time rather than hours like a conventional airplane. Providing significantly lower delivery cost for shipping cargo and freight threw the air. The airship can also land anywhere it pleases, like on water, sand, ice, conventional dirt and more, which can bring new routes to places and going to new places that have previously been inaccessible areas.

The airships measures in at 92m long and 43.5m wide, this is the world’s largest aircraft. with a price of £25m, it is not that expensive when compared to the price of an A380 SuperJumbo jet, at $375m (£287m). It can also carry 10 tons of cargo , being compared with military transport helicopters such as the CH-47 Chinook.
