Time Travel

Hunter Major

Everyone has seen the movies where characters go to the past or future but can this ever happen in our world? Well, so far we actually have seen a very small amount of "time travel" take place. Scientists learned that clocks on GPS satellites do indeed run a little bit fast seeing how there are moving 9,000 miles per hour in orbit. They lose 8 milliseconds a day which is hardly perceivable, although it is a place to start.

Albert Einstein laid the groundwork for much of the theoretical science that governs most time travel research today. His theory pretty much rules out any way of travelling back in time, although keep in mind it is just a theory. Over the years we have seen certain aspects of Einstein's theory proven true which help us get to the goal of time travel. The most reason in proving that time dilation is absolutely a real phenomenon. Time dilation basically refers to the idea that time passes more slowly for a moving clock than it does for a stationary clock. As well as the force of gravity affecting the elapsed time. For example, black holes would produce a massive amount of time dilation, due to all of the gravitational pull.

Will time travel ever be able to be taken to extra travelling days into the future? The one approach is the wormhole approach but we truly will not know until we test it. Although at the moment we don't have a realistic way of building a wormhole in space so that is where time travel is at currently.
