Fastest Electric Plane Ever

Electric engines have already demonstrated their power on the ground, in cars such as the Tesla. But those electric engines are now taking to the sky, where a plane recently broke the top speed every recorded for an electric aircraft. On March 23, the electric-powered Extra 330LE plane reached a record-setting top speed of about 209.7 mph according to Siemens, the German company that produced the motor. The 330LE also set another record when it climbed from the ground to 9,842 ft in 4 minutes and 22 seconds. The 330LE easily beat the previous electric aircraft 3,000m time to climb record in 5 minutes, 32 seconds set in 2014. The plane is built as a sports plane, such as one for air shows and races, not for commercial or passenger use. Though it is said that in the next 15 years electric engine planes will be seen traveling small flights up to 600 miles, and carry 100 passengers.

This aircraft won’t likely be a pure electric plane. it will be a hybrids similar to a car the Chevrolet Volt, that are out on the road right now. The volt has an electric motor that is what powers the wheel  but there is also a second motor that runs on gasoline, that is used to power the electric engine, like a generator. Siemens is also contributing this technology to its joint project with Airbus in the area of electrically powered flight, and the two companies have signed a collaboration agreement. Electric engines are in deed scalable but for the best performance and to work best on a larger scale they are working on a Hybrid engine.
