Alptransit Gotthard Base Tunnel/ Gensler's Shanghai Tower

Ground was first broken on this endeavor in 1999. The project was to dig a tunnel through the Swiss Alps. Just last June, the project was completed and the dual tunnel was opened. This tunnel connected Zurich and Milan, and takes only 3 and a half hours. This time is a whole half hour less than the alternative. It also cuts down on air pollution in an area.

Another engineering marvel is Gensler's Shanghai Tower. This is the second tallest skyscraper in the world. One of the biggest problems with tall buildings is heating. Gensler's tower is built with two layers on the outside. This acts as a thermos, keeping the inside temperature constant whether warm or cool and insulates so the outside temperature won't affect it.
