Image result for 3d printed rhino horn
Pembient, a startup out of Seattle, has made a 3D printed rhino horn that will help solve the problem of poaching rhinos. The company takes real rhino horn and genetically alters the cells to make it them almost identical to those of the real rhino horn. This product will then be released into the Chinese black market, where most illegal trading of rhino horns is done, through disclosed black market trading. It is meant to completely scramble the black market sale of rhino horns by making the rhino horn business unreliable, making the value of rhino horns in general tank. The company is mainly working with only crushed rhino horn because of it's easier to replicate a powder rather than an actual rhino horn and they hope to have a full 3D printed copy very soon. This new and innovative way to save rhinos could possibly be transferred to other species and eventually stop all poaching.
